A Message from the Mayor

First, I want to tell you how honored I am to be your Mayor.  I am humbled by your support and faith in me to lead this great city.  I promise to honor you all in my pledge to lead and to represent Waleska always in the best interest of its citizens.

We are off to a running start.  Our first Council Meeting reflected very positive plans in the months and years to come.  I wish to share with you a few of my ideas.  One of my most proud beginnings is that of a newsletter that will be called ‘Waleska Cares’.  This newsletter will be sent out to you every month with your water bill.  This will let you know what is happening in Waleska.

When I was campaigning throughout the city, I received many comments over how dim the lighting is in Waleska.  Debbie McEntyre, our City Manager, and I have met with Georgia Power recently and are looking into the possibility of improving the lighting along the main thoroughfares.  The lighting will appear brighter and more distributed along the sidewalks, retaining the existing light poles, as a cost-effective avenue of providing a safer haven for our families.  This was a concern brought to my attention repeatedly.

Also, we are giving consideration to forming citizen committees for specific issues that may arise.  This will offer more citizen involvement and feedback to our Mayor and City Council, assisting us in making an informative decision on your behalf.  We want you to get involved and let your voice be heard.

Finally, if you have any concerns, comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me at City Hall at 770-479-2912.  I welcome any calls or visits.

Your Devoted Mayor,

Doris Ann Jones
